Regional Meeting for the Eighth Session of the Conference of the Parties of the WHO-FCTC

Centre for Combating Tobacco was invited for the Regional Meeting for the Eighth Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the World Health Organisation-Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO-FCTC)held on 20th and 21st August 2018, at New Delhi, India. The meeting was organized by the WHO South-East Asia Regional Office (SEARO), the Convention Secretariat and the Ministry of Health and Home Affairs, India. The regional meeting aimed to prepare and support proactive participation of SEAR Member States and enhance their solidarity for the issues taken up at COP 8. The Sri Lankan delegation comprised of Dr. T. L. C Somatunga, Additional Secretary/Public Health Services and Dr. V. T. S. K. Siriwardana, Director/Non Communicable Diseases from the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and indigenous medicine, Dr. Palitha Abeykoon, Chairperson, National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol(NATA),  Mr. SuveendranThirupathy, National Programme Officer for Alcohol and Substance Use, WHO, Sri Lanka  and Dr. Manuja Perera, Editor, Centre for Combating Tobacco(CCT). The progress made by CCT in monitoring the tobacco industry activities and implementation of FCTC Article 5.3 was appreciated by the Regional stakeholders during the meeting.
